The primary objective of Indian Hernia Society has been to further the learning of art and science of hernia surgery for surgical trainees and practicing surgeons. Towards achieving this goal; the first dedicated Hernia workshop was organized at AIIMS in 2003 and formation of Indian Hernia Society was announced. The Inaugural Conference of the Indian Hernia Society was held at AIIMS from 10-12 March 2006 and was a grand success. At present Indian Hernia Society has grown to a family of 300 surgeons from India and abroad.
